Barack Obama…now, what’s the deal?

Political devil that I am I’ve been following this guy’s career for some time and, yes, I’m impressed with him, considering that he is a relative newcomer. But I’m at a loss to explain this fawning love affair the media has developed for the guy. CNN gushes over him like a 14-year-old girl over a groovy new boyfriend!
Barack is glib, reasonably good looking, obviously smart and canny, but for Pete’s sake, regardless of how telegenic he is,  he’s just a first-round senator.
We all fantasize about how when “MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON” and cleans up the corruption and the pork it is in part because he’s just a simple, regular guy who is naïve about the ins-and-outs of the political zoo but wants to save America and the World at large.
But talking about making “MR. SMITH,” aka Obama, as president is just a little on the scary side to me.  Is this a indicator of how bankrupt the democratic Party has become to so rabidly embrace a so-far uncorrupted newcomer over the party’s staid, tried and true? Do they feel he’s their only salvation, despite the fact that he’s probably far too inexperienced to be the president?
There’s talk that he’ll run for president and will eventually draft Hilary as his VP. I’m pretty doubtful about that scenario. If anything it is more like to be the other way around.
It is amazing, though, to watch his star ascend. God help him if there’s anything even remotely nefarious in his past. We’ve all seen it before: if the press turns on him, and given the slightest impetus they will, he will look back on this time as his glory days.
